Those mag sets came with 4 mags, 4 strippers, 1 stripper guide, 1 BFA & IIRC a cleaning kit. The East German ( ) ones came in bulk used, some new ones were re-wrapped in the US & a lot came in brand new in 4 cell rain pattern camo pouches sealed in a heavy clear plastic bag. The Russians made both 30 & 45 round mags by both Tula ( * ) & Izevsk ( ^ ).
223 AK mags, so many were cut in the feed lips to feed. There was a glut of EG 5.45 mags & a shortage of. 223/5.56x45mm once the Chinese imports were banned by Clinton. If you buy any watch out for the ones that were made to work with. All the 5.45 mags will have the inner steel feed lip liners.
TULA AK 47 BAKELITE MAGAZINE CODE
The east German ones will not have a factory code on them, but will have the unknown numbers on the other side. The 5.45 ones were made by either Tula ( * ), Izevsk ( ^ ) or by East Germany ( ). None of the early imports I ever saw back then had the lame solider vandalism on them like much of the junk coming in today has. The 40 round PRK mags are very hard to find. Buy at least a few for your collection while you can still get them. I have a big box of them in VG to new condition that I got in the early 1990's for between $20-$30 each. The Tula ones with the steel feed lip liners are the hardest ones to find. Both were made with and without steel inner feed lip liners. The 7.62 ones were made by either Tula ( * ) or Izevsk ( ^ ) & the number code on the other side of the body is some unknown factory marking. The 7.62 Norico *66 ones are great also & every collection needs at least one. They also have that classic 1970's-1990's combloc look to them. Even the non lined ones will last much longer than the aftermarket junk ones will. The ones with the steel feed lip liners are just as reliable as the non lined ones are. They are much lighter than the steel ones. They don't dent or get ugly fingerprint rust spots. The Soviet/East German AKM/AK-74 "bakelite" mags are really made from a thermoset long fiber reinforced plastic called AG-4 & are some of the best quality mags that you can get beside the original Bulgarian polymer waffle mags. They are easier to clean the inside of the body as there is no ribbing like most steel AK mags have. They field strip just like a normal AK mag does. They feed flawlessly as all factory undamaged AK mags do. They are only worth what you are willing to pay for them. Just wanted some opinions from the AK gods.Just wondering if these are worth the $65-$100 some people are charging or is it just the fashion-over-function rarity and cool factor to have one? I have Circle 10's they work great but it would be nice to have a nice bakelite.
